Alexandria, VA to Owings Mills, MD. 77.3 miles

A double border crossing today from Virginia, through Wash. DC and then into Maryland and another margarita night, topped off with Eli's Cheesecake! Started out on the Mount Vernon bike trail along the Potomac across the Arlington Memorial Bridge into DC and right into the Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool. A total of 28+ miles on bike trails today, through DC on the Capitol Crescent Trail and then into Maryland on the Rock Creek Trail.  A lovely day of trail riding if you didn't have to do an additional 45 miles after the trails. Almost all of us were lost on the trails at some point but then miraculously saw each other again on the route. I have no idea how that happened!  Today was cool and sunny with those crazy every direction winds again.
My riding days seem to be getting longer as the hills get bigger because I am such an uphill slowpoke!!  We had 5275 feet of ascent today and 4000 descent - you would think I could make up the slow ascents with some fast downhills but it doesn't seem to be working that way.  We had one 1.2 mile  uphill with grades of 4 to 8 percent.  Oh sadly I think this is only the beginning!
Along the Mt. Vernon Bike Trail
Abe is in there but you can't see him from all the school kids

  Crossing into Maryland. Six states
   down
A stretch and a rest before the big hill
Topped off the day with Eli's dessert
